When Husband Hunters first popped up for pre-order on Amazon there were more than half a million other books that were more popular than it. I realised that I would have to come up with a few ideas to engage people in the story. It's all very well to ask your mother and your sister to buy it, but I only have one sister - hardly enough to create a bumb in sales. I needed something that people could click on in a minute or two that would give them a taste for the book's tone. I thought a brief, colourful trailer would be an effective way to do that.
I knew readers probbaly wouldn't be interested in a blurb, so I picked a small excerpt that I thought women would relate to. The effectiveness of a trailer for an unknown author such as myself relies heavily on how widely shared it is. I was fairly shameless in asking my immediate circle for support in that regard. The hope is that friends-of-friends and relatives-of-friends will click on the trailer and decide to read the book and that they in turn will recommend it to others. Common wisdome I've come across in my research into ebook marketing is that you should try to reach one new reader at a time. My hope is this trailer will help me reach one reader at a time far more quickly than my previous method - which was to badger them at parties and on public transport. I hope you enjoy the trailer.
